McLoughlin and Steele Whisky
McLoughlin and Steele is a premium rye whisky bottled and blended in the interior of British Columbia, in the town of Vernon at the north end of the beautiful Okanagan Valley. Proudly named for two pioneers of the rugged BC wilderness from the mid-1800s – Dr. John McLoughlin and James Steele – this special spirit is a tribute to the grit and determination that were required to survive in such an unforgiving place. Whether it was driving cattle 200 miles up the Oregon Trail, or establishing an outpost that would one day become Vancouver, these men epitomized the strength, fitness and character that were necessary attributes for this region in those times.
The Whisky
Highly acclaimed distiller Okanagan Spirits – Western Canada’s first and most premium craft distillery – has been recognized as a ‘Master Class’ distillery by the World Spirits Organization, through its regular participation at the World Spirits Competition held in Klagenfurt, Austria, and the numerous resultant gold medals for its products.
The company is proud of the fact that its products contain no additives, no chemicals, no artificial flavours, and are made from 100% natural source materials. It uses state-of-the-art fermentation and filtering processes, and carefully distills in a traditional copper pot still, ensuring that its products are made to the highest quality standards.
Okanagan Spirits is pleased to present its high quality rye whisky, utilizing only the finest Canadian grains and rye in the process. Its production is small batch, with no sugars added. The whisky is aged a minimum of three years in American white oak, and allowed to experience the seasonal temperature fluctuations of the valley to positive effect, as the expanding and contracting barrels enhance the ageing process of the liquid.
Tasting Notes
The result is a delightfully smooth, smoky, rich and flavourful whisky that leaves a long, pleasant aftertaste. It is ideal for sipping slowly on its own – as undoubtedly McLoughlin and Steele would have done in their day – or as a solid quality base for a variety of fabulous cocktail creations.
